REVELATION

Chart 18n The Coming Tribulation Period the Punitive Judgment PDF

As believers looking at the book of Revelation one may ask, what importance is it to believers today? Possible answers: It will confirm or adds trust to the facts of God for some. Others who want to hear and see the facts of the prophecy confirming and agreeing with the rest of scripture will receive confirmation. Others will learn and see the Godhead is Trinitarian. Then, others can perceive the final events of the dispensations which proceeded these events and the completion of the existence of the world as we know it today. Then, there will be those who will want to confirm the belief they have held to during their journey in life. A couple of Biblical reason are given in the books of Hebrews 11:1, 3, 6, and another is in the Romans 10:17 that speak of the working of faith. Also, knowing enable one to give an answer to those who inquire of them about the fact of God and His Word, I Peter 3:15.

Chapter 1

According to verse three the book of Revelation is a prophetic revelation. John is given a vision in which he is seeing the seven spirits of God. They are present, standing in God's present while the presentation of the prophetic revelation is given to him, verse four.
According to this prophecy our Lord Jesus Christ is coming to earth from the sky in the clouds and every eye of humanity will see Him, this includes the gentile, in whom the Jewish Nation turned over to be crucified. This will be a time, according to verse seven, in which the whole earth will mourn. They will mourn because of Him! This is an interesting thought because it is not a time of rejoicing for humanity, but a time of mourning, Revelation 14:14-through chapter 19. One has to ask why? This does not sound like the Rapture that is an event of hope and resurrection of believer to unite them with their glorified body spoken about in I Thessalonians 4:13-18 which occurred many years before this event, at least seven maybe more.

Yes it’s not the same event because it is the ending of the punitive judgment of the seven-year tribulation. It is the time of the battle of Armageddon, (Revelation 16:16) when our Lord Jesus Christ sets foot on the earth to establish His earthly Kingdom. Establishing the Nation of Israel as the governmental authority, verse six and ruling with them as the stewards will be the redeemed of all the saints from all the other dispensations since the world began, I Corinthians 6:2. Also, called the 1000 year Kingdom and the Dispensation of the Kingdom where Christ takes the throne of David to rule here on earth spoken about in Revelation 20. It is where Satan will be imprisoned for the 1000 years before his final eternal judgment.

The Lord Jesus Christ in this prophecy verse eight is identified as God, being called the Almighty who is coming. The record identifies Him as the One who is, the one who was, and the one coming. This prophecy says this identification of God as Jesus Christ being the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, Revelation 22:12-17!

This prophetic coming of God the Son is called in verse 10, the Day of our LORD. The Speaker to John in verse 11-19 identifies Himself as the Lord Jesus Christ. John is to record according to this prophecy the thing seen, the things which are, and the things that will occur in the future.

The first chapter of the book of Revelation given to John, ends with describing this prophecy as a mystery revealed in the details of the book of Revelation as it unfolds this prophecy, verse 20. Remember the three period in which John was given to reveal: the thing seen, the things which are, and the things that will occur in the future. Identifying the three will be hard, but rewarding and interesting as the book unfolds!

The mystery aspect refers to the seven stars and the called out assemblies which will be the stewards of the events prophesied. The stars represent the messengers of God which are identified as Angels in our English translations which are the churches, or the stewards of this time. The Lamp-stands are identified as this group of believes (churches) who are the call out believers during the time prophesied. The group of believer are not just one group, but identified as churches, a plural group of believers. The lamp-stands s remind me of our LORD’s teaching that His messengers are the light to their inhabitation showing forth the universal truths of God, Mathew 5:13-16, II Corinthians 5:16-21.

The seven spirits of God is the fire or light on the Lamps on the lamp-stands s 4:5; having seven eyes seeing the events on earth 5:6 they are ‘burning before the throne”.  The burning could represent the desire of the call out believers and their desire to be avenged of their murder when martyred, spoken in 6:9-10 and 20:4. The seven spirits are connected with the Lamb, witnesses or messengers to the world of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ that will be murdered or martyred. Ownership of the seven spirits, lamps and lamp-stands s is the Lord Jesus Christ the Lamb, 3:1; 4:5 and 5:6.

Revelation 1:4 - John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
Revelation 3:1 - And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Revelation 4:5 - And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
Revelation 5:6 - And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. NIV

Identification of these will help greatly to understand the book as it unfolds the punitive judgment of God on the earth and all humanity who reject His truths given in the Word of God, revealing His love, longsuffering, mercy and grace. The One and only God who is holy, righteous and just.

Believers who have been transformed by our Lord Jesus Christ has let Him tabernacle in them by giving Him complete Lordship as He indwells, Romans 10:9-13, I John 5:9-14; John 1:1,12,14. The transformed human becomes the temple that He permanently indwells, Ephesians 1:13; 4:30; I Corinthians 6:19-20. With this indwelling He performs His spiritual power through the message He has for humanity around us, I Corinthians 12:3; (Isaiah 11, prophecies of the reestablishing of the Nation of Israel under the New Covenant). Those who try to connect the seven spirits to Christ Jesus referred to in Isaiah 11 are not all wrong in the sense that transformed believers of the Lord has become one with a unified purpose to reach humanity with the Gospel of salvation this is because of His indwelling us with the Holy Spirit a universal truth relating to the New Covenant.

The context shows plurality not a singular spirit. Knowing God is one the seven spirit seen to refer to something other than His being. The context, however, does support the thought presented above. The seven spirit seem to be revealing the light on each of the candlestick on the lamp-stands that represent the seven churches. Plurality spirit and plurality churches or lamp-stands s who were and did hold forth the message of the Lord Jesus Christ who will be martyred during this prophetic time, who are waiting for the final judgment of God on this prophetic time Revelations 20:4-6.

As we look at the rest of the book of Revelation these are the things to keep before us so we can identify events:

  1. The Day of the Lord that is coming is the main subject,
  2. The thing seen,
  3. The things that are presently happening,
  4. The things that would occur in the future,
  5. The identification of the symbolism.
    a. The seven spirits, who are the light of judgment (lamp) on the lamp-stand,
    b. The seven lamp-stands (church) in the world where to be God’s messengers,
    c. The seven stars, the called out assembly (church),
    d. The seven Angels (messengers) given to the stars (Church).

These symbols and the revelation of the prophecy will relate in the next chapter to those who will endure to the end and those who fail to be part of the called our assemblies.
